Neglect for God’s Kingdom and Preoccupation with Our Own

The people of God in Haggai’s day had lost their grip on the Kingdom vision, that there was something worth fighting for. They had seemingly lost the ability to resist building their own kingdom over God’s. They couldn’t recognize Kingdom possibilities, so they focused on their own little empires and houses. We face these same issues in our own day. While we do not cease to be kingdom-builders, we are drawn to the wrong city and the wrong kingdom. As we study Haggai, our prayer is that we are awakened from our false assumptions and agitated by flagrant neglect, so that we become more faithfully activated for Kingdom witness and work.
